Next stop, Louisiana.

After winning state championships on Sunday, a pair of Troup County baseball teams are headed to Ruston, La. for the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series.

The World Series begins on Aug. 2 and goes through Aug. 8 when a champion will be crowned.

The Troup National 9-10-year-old all-stars completed a dominant state in the state tournament by beating Greene County 10-1 in Sunday’s championship game.

Troup went 6-0 in the state tournament and won each game by at least five runs.

The Troup 11-12-year-old all-stars blanked Wrens 11-0 on Sunday afternoon to win its state title.

Both Troup teams will play their openers in the double-elimination World Series on Aug. 3.

Troup’s 11-12-year-old team will face Mississippi at 5:45 p.m., and Troup’s 9-10-year-old team will tangle with South Carolina at 5:45 p.m.

Included in the field are state champions from Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi.

As the host community, Ruston will have teams in both tournaments.

To win the World Series, a team will have to win a minimum of six games, and that number grows if a team falls into the loser’s bracket.

Both Troup teams have already accomplished a great deal getting to this point, but they’re not satisfied.

“Our goal was to make the World Series, and now that we did, we might as well go do something,” said Jason Willis, the head coach for the Troup 9-10-year-old team.

Troup’s 11-12-year-old team will look to keep the momentum going when it faces Mississippi in its World Series opener.

“We’re excited for the experience, and we can’t wait to hit the field against Mississippi,” said Troup head coach Ron Wilson.
