A memorable summer came to a close for the Georgia (Troup County) all-stars with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Florida in the Dixie Youth Baseball 11-12-year-old World Series in Ruston, La.

Georgia finished with a 3-2 World Series record, and it was one of the final-four teams standing in the 12-team tournament.

Florida scored a single run in the top of the fifth inning, and that was enough.

Bryce Hubbard started for Georgia and pitched three scoreless innings, and he held Florida to one hit.

Rob Skinner threw the final three innings and also did a terrific job on the mound.

Georgia’s best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Logan Cammon and Noah Whaley reached on back-to-back singles with no outs.

Georgia was unable to push a run across, though.

Georgia opened its World Series stay with three straight wins, including back-to-back extra-inning victories over Alabama and Louisiana.

Georgia fell to North Carolina 5-3 on Tuesday, setting up the elimination game against Florida.

Earlier in the summer, Georgia won the state tournament to earn an invitation to the World Series.
