Next month the LaGrange Fire Department will run 110 flights of stairs to honor the men and women who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“We are just grateful that we can honor those brave men and women that gave their lives bravely on that tragic day. Doing this stair climb is just a small gesture to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten,” said LFD Chief John Brant. “Brave men and women risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of others and I believe this is one of the many events in which we can show our gratitude.”

Unlike previous years, the LFD is inviting the public to participate in the 9/11 Annual Memorial Stair Climb Challenge. 

The challenge’s proceeds will go toward  the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of Georgia, named in memory of fallen 9/11 firefighter Terry Farrell who was in Tower Two of the World Trade Center when it collapsed. The proceeds will assist firefighters and their families across the nation with financial, educational and medical support. It will also provide equipment donations for fire departments in need.

LFD and Three Life Church will host the event Sept. 11 at the Callaway Stadium starting at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.

To register for the 9/11 Annual Memorial Stair Climb Challenge stop by the LaGrange Fire Department Administrative Building at 115 Hill Street in LaGrange or at the door the day of. Participants must be 18 or older due to the intensity of the event. 

The entry fee is set $25, which will pay for a t-shirt as well.
