Callaway collects region win

The Callaway Lady Cavaliers thumped home-standing Temple 9-2 on Tuesday to get their first Region 5-AA win of the season.
Callaway began region play with losses to Lamar County and Heard County before getting on the board against Temple.
Temple jumped on top with a pair of runs in the first inning, and it remained a 2-0 game through three innings.
Callaway broke through for four runs in the fourth inning, and it added four more runs in the top of the fifth to complete the scoring.
Aaliyah Morman had a big day for Callaway with three hits, including an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Lindsay Cofield had two hits with a two-run double in the fifth inning, and she scored two runs.
Alora Vetsavong had an RBI single, a walk, and two runs scored, and Alexus Furgerson and Tyterria Godwin each had an RBI single.
Kourtney Grier and Chaple Butler each had a hit and two runs scored, McKenzie Rhodes had a hit, and Mya Lawton reached on an error and scored a run.
Lawton was the starting and winning pitcher, and Furgerson finished things off on the mound in the seventh inning.
Callaway hosts Bremen on Thursday.
