LaGrange High’s softball team knows it is going to be at home for the opening round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.
Whether LaGrange will be a number one seed or a number two seed will be determined next week when it plays Central-Carroll for the Region 5-AAAA championship.
LaGrange and Central-Carroll will meet in a best-of-three series for the region championship, and both teams will host a state-playoff series.
The series will be played at Central-Carroll, and they’ll play a doubleheader on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
If needed, a third and deciding game will be on Thursday.
LaGrange finished the regular season with a 9-3 region record to earn the number two seed, and Central-Carroll finished first with an 11-1 region record.
The teams split their two regular-season showdowns, with each team winning on its home field.
Third-seeded Troup will play at sixth-seeded Cedartown in a Region 5-AAAA playoff series, and the stakes are high.
While the winner will advance to the state playoffs, the season will be over for the losing team.
The winner of the series will play either Chapel Hill or Cartersville to determine the region’s third seed and fourth seed for the state playoffs.
Cedartown won both regular-season meetings against Troup.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Also next week, Callaway will play in the four-team Region 5-AA tournament at Heard County.
The one-day tournament will be held on Thursday, with each of the teams playing two games.
Callaway, the number four seed, will play top-seeded Heard at noon, and second-seeded Bremen will play third-seeded Lamar County at 2 p.m.
The third-place game is at 4 p.m., and the championship game is at 6 p.m.
All four teams have already qualified for the state playoffs.
The first-place and second-place teams from the region will be at home for a first-round series.
