Hills and Dales Estate is offering full-sized candy bars to dressed up trick-or-treaters from 5 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night. The estate will take eight cars at a time to a designated parking space. Children will walk from there to trick or treat.
Members of the Callaway family will be giving out the bars, according to Director Carleton Wood.
“We’ve never had it rain in 16 years,” Wood said.
However, if does, Wood advises checking the estate’s Facebook page that day for weather-related updates.
The estate normally sees 700 to 800 children trick-or-treating.
“Six hundred is a slow night,” Wood said. “We’ll lightly decorate and have music.”
The LaGrange Memorial Library will host a Dia de los Muertos event from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 31.
“We’ll have festive music and make tissue paper marigolds,” said Youth Services Coordinator Kate Chambers.
The marigolds are traditionally put on the altar of loved ones’ photos, she said.
Kids will also color and make replicas of the traditional sugar skull mask and hear a story about the history of the holiday.
“It’s going to be a really fun time, and we’ll learn things as well,” Chambers said.
The library will receive trick-or-treaters that day, giving candy and books to costumed kids until the library closes at 7 p.m.
Strange LaGrange, a weekly Friday walking tour of LaGrange’s eeriest stories has added a Thursday night tour for Halloween. It begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12-20 and are available at trouparchives.org.
