The top spot has been decided, but there’s plenty left to be determined in Region 5-AA over the final two weeks of the regular season.

Callaway secured the Region 5-AA championship with last week’s 34-0 win over Heard County, and there are four teams vying for the region’s other three state-playoff spots.

While Bremen and Heard County are tied for second in the region with 3-1 records, Lamar County owns the fourth spot with a 2-2 region mark.

Temple (2-3 in the region) is in fifth place in the region and still very much in the playoff race, and Spencer and Jordan are both 0-4 in the region.

Heard County saw its chances for winning three straight region titles end with the loss to Callaway, but head coach Tim Barron’s team can still finish second and earn home-field advantage in the first round of the state playoffs.

Heard County visits Lamar County on Friday before hosting Bremen on Nov. 8 in a game that could decide the number two spot.

Bremen closes the regular season with road games against Spencer and Heard.

Lamar County finishes the regular season with games against Heard County and Temple, and it can clinch a playoff spot with one win.

Temple is off this week, and it closes the regular season with a critical game against Lamar County.
