WEST POINT — The holidays are just around the corner, and the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce has an event to get everybody into higher spirits.
HolidayFest on the River takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at West Point River Park. The event is free to the public.
Chamber Executive Director Carrie Royster is inviting people from all over the Greater Valley Area.
“Start your Christmas shopping at the festival and make this a family event,” she said. “Take [advantage of] the opportunity of all the free activities for kids.”
The highlight of children’s activities includes pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus from noon to 2 p.m.
Kids can also jump in inflatables, play video games in a cyber game truck and play laser tag. A balloon artist will be on hand as well.
“We’re very happy the HolidayFest is in West Point every year,” West Point Mayor Steve Tramell said. “It’s a great event for us. We’re thankful that the chamber hosts it, and we’re thankful for that partnership. It’s always well attended, and we have a lot of good vendors.”
Vendors will be selling jewelry, holiday wreaths, artwork and woodcrafts, according to Royster.
“For food, we’ll have funnel cakes, barbecue and Mary’s Grilled Chicken Wraps,” Royster said.
One special guest will be local author Kimberly Carter who will be selling and autographing her children’s book “Looking for Santa in Chambers County.”
Entertainment will be provided by a DJ Rain is expected Saturday, but the festival will take place rain or shine.
