The Brooks County Trojans are tested and ready for the challenge.

Brooks County (10-3) has played arguably the most difficult schedule of any Class AA team in the state, so it will be ready for anything it faces the rest of the way.

This week’s challenge will be another stern one for Brooks County, which will be at Callaway Stadium on Friday night to play the Callaway Cavaliers (12-1) in the state semifinals.

The winner will play either Thomasville or Dublin in the state-championship game in Atlanta.

“They’ve beaten a lot of good teams,” said Pete Wiggins, Callaway’s head coach. “You look at their schedule, and they play a tough, physical schedule, and they play a lot of schools in higher classifications. So, they’re rolling up here with a lot of game experience, and a lot of big games and physical games. So again, when you get to this point, everybody’s good, so the preparation is key at practice, and we have to go out on Friday night and be able execute the plan, and continue with that.”

Brooks County, which finished second to Thomasville in Region 1-AA, has taken no prisoners in the playoffs.

Brooks County has beaten its three playoff opponents by a combined score of 118-23, and none of the games have been competitive.

After opening with a 42-14 victory over Washington County, Brooks County overwhelmed Rockmart 41-3 before thumping Metter 35-6 last week.

In last week’s win over Metter, Brooks County delivered a dominant all-around performance.

Metter scored on its opening possession, but it was shut out the rest of the way.

Offensively, Brooks County got it done with a balanced offense, passing for 117 yards and running for 234 yards.

Omari Arnold led Brooks County with 162 rushing yards, including a 71-yard touchdown, Ni’tavion Burrus had two touchdown runs.

Wiggins, whose team is 1-1 in previous playoff games against Brooks County, knows how difficult a task it’ll be for his team.

“I think (the Brooks) defense is the best that we’ve seen this year,” Wiggins said. “It’s really fast. They’ve got a lot of guys that run to the ball. So it’s going to be a great challenge, but when you get to this point and there’s four football teams left, you know that everybody’s good. You know they’re going to be well-coached, and that’s what you expect at this point. So we have to keep preparing and we have to go out and execute. We know the level of team we’re going to be facing, and they play at a high level.”
