LaGrange First United Methodist Church choir spent its lunch time performing for a different crowd Monday afternoon. 

The choir group showed up to spread holiday cheer to those eating at the church’s soup kitchen. 

“These wonderful people come every week to eat,” said FUMC Minister of Music and Worship Darian Krimm. “They are some of the most vulnerable people in our community, and we just wanted to share some of the greatest music for them, especially this time of the year.” 

Each week, the church hosts a soup kitchen Monday and Wednesday where anyone in the community can get a hot meal with no questions asked. 

“We wanted to do something different for them and have a little treat,” said Rick Free, director of food services. 

“There’s not a lot of interaction in other areas, so this just gives us good interaction, and it shows them a little bit of our show too. We just try to be open to all people.”

The church’s chancel choir and soloists with orchestra will perform that same concert, its Handel’s Messiah showing, on Sunday Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The show has free admission, but donations are welcome. 

“They are so talented, and this gave them another outlet to sing to a group,” Free said. 

Previously, the Sons of Lafayette also sang at the soup kitchen. 

Free said the church welcomes anyone who wants to volunteer to serve or perform at the soup kitchen.
