Roughly 70 people participated in the City of LaGrange’s monthly litter cleanup Saturday. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church was the city’s partner for this event.

City employees, Mayor Jim Thornton, City Councilman Nathan Gaskin, LaGrange Youth Council members, St. Mark’s church members, United Methodist Church Boy Scouts Pack 21 and community members all picked up litter along the first segment of The Thread behind St. Mark’s and along the roadways connecting North Greenwood Street, according to a press release from the city.

The litter cleanups are a family-friendly, free and open to the public. The city provides vests, trash bags and gloves to participants.

City Manager Meg Kelsey began this litter cleanup campaign in April 2018 hoping to send a message to the community that the City of LaGrange is serious about cleaning up our community. The city already has several future litter cleanups planned that anyone from the public is invited to attend. 

On Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. the city will host a cleanup beginning at the Weathers Honda parking lot at 1808 Vernon Road. McKeen Realty will partner on the cleanup. 

Then on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the city will host a cleanup beginning at the Piggly Wiggly parking lot at 505 Greenwood Street. 

On Saturday, March 7 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the city will host a cleanup beginning at Jones Street Park. LaGrange College is set to partner on the cleanup. 

Finally, on Friday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., City of LaGrange employees will pick up trash throughout the community.
