DECATUR — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the promotion of Jeremy Dockins to Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Region 2 Office in Columbus, in a press release. 

Working with the Special Agent in Charge, ASAC Dockins will be responsible for the supervision of the Special Agents assigned to Region 2. Region 2 serves an 13-county area and conducts major investigations to include as use of force investigations, homicide, aggravated assault, rape, child abuse, armed robbery, fraud and other felonies. 

ASAC Dockins began his law enforcement with the GBI when he was hired as Special Agent in September 2007. ASAC Dockins’ first assignment was at the GBI’s State Drug Task Force. In 2009, he was transferred to the Region 2 Office and served as a secondary crime scene specialist.

In April 2012, he attended the National Forensic Academy in Knoxville, TN and became the full-time crime scene specialist for Region 2. 

In 2016, he transferred to the West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office and was later detached to the DEA Columbus Regional Office investigating mid- to high-level drug trafficking organizations, until his promotion to ASAC. ASAC Dockins is a graduate of LaGrange College with a bachelor of science degree in business management, and he received a master of science degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University. He is also a member of the GBI Peer Support Team.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is comprised of three divisions — the Georgia Crime Information Center, the crime laboratory and the investigative division. 

The agency has over 830 employees and a budget of $103 million. ASAC Dockins is assigned to the investigative division.
