The temperatures are expected to drop in the low 30s again this coming weekend. 

As everyone enjoys a cold day, it’s important to remember that there are less fortunate people in the county who still need help.

The LaGrange-Troup County Homeless Coalition’s Warming Center opens when the temperature drops below 37 degrees between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. 

The center is currently seeking volunteers to help with its three available shifts, which are the following:

• From 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. is check-in for guests 
•  From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. is check in and assisting with meals 
•  From 9:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. is the overnight shift

If anyone needs help going to the warming center, they can call 911 or go to the LaGrange Police Department where an officer can give them a ride to the center. The LaGrange Housing Authority also offers free transportation for the center.

The warming center can hold up to 75 people each night it is open. 

Those seeking shelter from the cold can find out if the center is open by signs that are strategically posted in the community and also online.  

As cold and unbearable as it gets during the winter for most of us, it’s even worse for those without homes. Helping in any way through volunteering or donating makes an impact on lives in the county. The center is located at 150 East Lukken Industrial Drive in LaGrange.
