Helen Clark Loyd

Helen Clark Loyd, 92, of LaGrange went to be with the Lord on Jan. 2, 2020. Miss Loyd was born Dec. 17, 1927, to the late Rebie Dixon Loyd and Hamilton Traylor Loyd. She graduated from Center School in Troup County in 1944. She attended LaGrange College and graduated from Montreat College in 1948. Helen taught school for 12 years in South Georgia followed by a 32 year career as a Director of Christian Education for the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Helen served churches in Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee; Winston Salem and Charlotte, North Carolinab and Sumter, South Carolina. After she retired, Helen returned home to LaGrange.
She rejoined Loyd Presbyterian Church where she grew up and served as an elder, member of the choir and member of Presbyterian Women. She substitute taught for many years and served with the LaGrange Volunteers of America in Troup County which included tutoring individuals. She was a member of the Pilot Club of LaGrange.
Helen loved to travel and before and after retirement was able to visit Europe, Great Britain, Turkey, Greece and Israel. She was often accompanied by her niece, Pat Alverson.
Helen is survived by one sister, Sara L. Hopson of LaGrange, two sisters-in-law, Josephine Loyd of LaGrange and Jan Loyd Richmond of East Wenatchee, Washington. She is survived by seven nieces, Nancy Hopson King, Pat Alverson, Laura Loyd Boggs, Eleanor Loyd Thompson, Emily Loyd Mansour, Lynn Loyd Pauley and Lisa Loyd Adams; and five nephews, Glenn Hopson, Jeff Hopson, Ed Alverson, Mark Loyd and Greg Loyd; plus numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Anne Loyd Alverson, her brothers, Harold “Buddy” Loyd and Thomas “Tommy” Hamilton Loyd and one nephew, Robert “Bobby” Hopson
Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at Loyd Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rix Threadgill officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be in the church fellowship hall following the service.
