Two Atlanta residents were arrested in LaGrange Wednesday after attempting to leave drugs in a doctor’s office for a Calhoun State Prison inmate.

Vontavia Bryant, 23, and Quantadis Warren, 23, have both been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with the intention to distribute, possession of a schedule I with the intention to distribute, conspiracy to cross a guard line with a controlled substance and conspiracy to cross a guard line with contraband.

At about 11 a.m., Wednesday, officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to West Georgia Dermatology due to several drug items found in the public restroom.

According to Sgt. Mark Cavender, members of the staff said a man and a woman entered the office, and while the women approached the front desk, the man entered the restroom.

Cavender said the staff reported the two individuals were acting nervous and asking questions that raised the suspicion of the staff. He said the couple asked questions about if the doctor’s office sees patients often from out of town.

“Questions that you wouldn’t think others would be asking in a doctor’s office,” Cavender said. “It was enough to arouse the suspicion of the people working there to make sure nothing was wrong.”

After the two left the officer, staff searched the restroom and found a vacuum-sealed package containing approximately 100 grams of methamphetamine, about 40 grams of marijuana, 20 grams of Marijuana Hashish, six cell phones with chargers, and several large bundles of packaged tobacco and rolling papers.

Cavender said West Georgia Dermatology regularly sees inmates from Calhoun State prison as a partnership with the Georgia Department of Corrections, and the two individuals knew a particular inmate was going to be seen Wednesday.

“The inmate would get the items out of the trash, and then he can smuggle them back to the prison,” he said.

Additional investigation led authorities to learn that Bryant is the daughter of an inmate at Calhoun State prison.

After the drugs were found, the LaGrange Special Investigations Unit was dispatched and learned the identifies of Bryant and Warren. Police say interviews with the individuals revealed that they were supposed to leave the drugs in the restroom. 

Bryant and Warren were arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail.

Cavender said LaGrange police are working with the Georgia Department of Corrections to levy more charges against incarcerated individuals connected to Warren and Bryant. 

He said pending charges are coming and a joint investigation between the two entities could lead to indictments to those inmates.
