Troup County Probate Judge Debbie Wade has qualified to run for probate judge in the May 19 primary election. Wade was named associate probate judge in April 2017 and was sworn in as probate judge in June 2018 to fill the unexpired term of Judge Donald W. Boyd upon his retirement.

This year, Wade will celebrate 25 years of employment with Troup County. Except for her first nine months, the remaining time has been spent serving citizens in the probate court. She first served as chief clerk, then as associate probate judge, then probate judge. When former Probate Judge L. Gwen Prescott retired in 1999, Wade served as interim judge for 10 months.

“It never feels like coming to work when you love your job as much as I do,” Wade said. “I will continue to run the office with the utmost care and respect my customers have learned to expect when dealing with me and the staff of the Probate Court.”

Wade has been attending the University of Georgia’s Institute for Continuing Judicial Education Probate Judge certification course for more than three years and expects to complete her certification in the spring. Every probate judge in Georgia has to take this four-year course and has to be tested on all aspects of the job.

Wade is a lifelong resident of Troup County and graduated from LaGrange High School. She is married to Richard Wade and they have two children, Cassie and Michael. She is a member of Grace Baptist Church. She is a member of the Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia and the Council of Probate Judges of Georgia.
