The Troup County School System Board of Education voted Friday to close all schools for two weeks starting Monday, March 16 through March 27.
Superintendent Dr. Brian Shumate said the current plan is for students to return to the classroom on March 30. The following week will be spring break for students.
Shumate said some employees will be on-call and those who have to miss work will not lose pay. He said the school buildings will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for parents to pick up essential medications as well as supplement work packets for students.
The school district will also offer a lunch program for the two weeks. The school system will send out a text message and email to all parents about how to proceed with the closure.
Shumate said all buildings will undergo a deep cleaning.
For those unable to get to the designated locations for lunch pick up or to receive work packets, the school system will release additional information Friday as to how parents can receive that information.
This story will be updated throughout the day.
