With the Fourth of July right around the corner, many in the community are gearing up for firework festivities. Boom City USA in Lanett, Alabama has shelves lines with fireworks perfect for celebrating Independence Day from the safety of home.
With LaGrange not having their annual fireworks show, firework businesses around the community have seen an increase in sales as people are deciding to have their own shows at home. With these home shows, firework safety is an important thing to keep in mind.
According to Marsha Pickens, manager of Boom City USA, fireworks can be a fun way to celebrate as long as they are used correctly.
“I think most people want to do their own private shows, so they can stay social distancing,” Pickens said. “We have everything people they have here in the store to have a safe and fun Fourth of July.”
It is important to always read the instructions on a firework item before lighting them. Burned sparklers should not be thrown on the ground in case someone steps on the item. Proper clothing should also be worn when handling fireworks.
Alcohol should not be used when handling fireworks. Using fireworks outside in approved areas is the best way to handle them in order to avoid fires. Fireworks should be used away from grassy areas and buildings.
“There is an extensive list of firework safety tips on our website boomcityusa.com,” Pickens said. “I would encourage everyone to look there to stay as safe as possible when handling fireworks.”
When it comes to fireworks, Pickens explained that Boom City USA has several types from little sparklers and roman candles to five-inch canister launchers.
“We have lots of big fireworks in stock and ready to sell,” Pickens said.
Despite the increasing spread of Covid-19, fireworks are still a great way to celebrate with family.
“We all want to celebrate, and we all want to have fun,” Pickens said.
