In a rematch of last year’s Region 5-AAAA championship series, it was Central-Carroll getting a late home run to beat LaGrange 4-1 on Thursday at Granger Park.
The game was tied 1-1 when Central’s Izzy Ripatti hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning, and that proved to be the difference.
Central-Carroll took the lead with a single run in the top of the second inning, and LaGrange answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Madison Dennis led off with a base hit, and she advanced to third on a single by Holly Lynn.
Courtesy runner Mary James Stogner took off for second base on an attempted steal and was thrown out, but Dennis sprinted home on the same play to tie it at 1-1.
It remained deadlocked until the sixth inning when Central’s first two batters reached on base hits before Ripatti broke the tie with her home run.
Abby Vanhoose, Malone Aldridge, Dennis and Lynn each had hits for LaGrange.
Camden Smith pitched a complete game for LaGrange, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three.
Karley Fuller tossed a four-hitter for Central-Carroll with eight strikeouts and no walks.
LaGrange (4-2 overall) will put its 1-0 Region 5-AAAA record on the line on Tuesday when it visits Kendrick.
