It’s region time for the Callaway High softball tam.

Callaway, which ended a six-game losing streak with a win over Shaw last week, will begin its Region 5-AA schedule with a game at Haralson County on Tuesday.

It will be the first of eight region games for Callaway, which will play eight of the other four teams in the region twice during the regular season.

Callaway continues its region schedule with a game at Temple on Thursday, and it will play its  first region home game next week against Heard County.

Callaway (2-6) won its season opener, but it lost six consecutive games after that before beating Shaw 8-5 last week.

Mya Lawton, Dara O’Neal and Faith Horton all pitched for Callaway, and Lawton also got it done at the plate with a home run.

The region road will be a tough one for Callaway.

Heard County and Bremen are perennial powerhouses, and both teams made it to Columbus for the eight-team state finals last season, while Haralson County also has a strong program and was in the state playoffs last fall.

Temple finished fifth in the region last season and didn’t reach the playoffs, and it hasn’t won a game this year.

Also this week, LaGrange High (4-2) will continue its Region 5-AAAA schedule after opening region play with a 7-1 win over Columbus last week.

LaGrange will visit Kendrick on Tuesday before returning home on Thursday for a non-region game against Newnan.

LaGrange, which finished second in the region to Central-Carroll last season, is scheduled to play eight region games leading up to the region tournament.

Troup, meanwhile, hasn’t played in two weeks because of a Covid-19 issue, and it will be eligible to return to action on Tuesday, although it’s regularly-scheduled game against Spencer that day won’t be played.

While Troup coach Ryan Simpson is working to finalize a revised schedule, she does know her team will play on Saturday along with LaGrange and Callaway in the Hope for a Day games.

The annual event will be played at Callaway High this year, and each team will play twice.

Callaway and LaGrange will play at 10 a.m., Troup and LaGrange will face off at 11:45 a.m., and Callaway and Troup meet in the final game at 1:30 p.m.

In GISA softball, LaGrange Academy (2-1) is scheduled to host Heritage on Thursday for its first games in more than two weeks.

LaGrange Academy hasn’t played since it won two of three games in the Callaway Classic.
