A woman has been charged with reckless conduct following an argument that resulted in a gun discharging while she was holding a young child in her other hand.
The incident took place Monday at 208 Boulevard Street in LaGrange. Officers responded at 8:38 p.m. and made contact with Alexis McDougald, 25, who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the thigh.
Following a verbal argument with two others, including the child’s father, McDougald is accused of obtaining a gun from a separate bedroom. When she returned, she was allegedly holding the gun in one hand and a 1-year-old child in the other hand.
Sgt. Mark Cavendar with the LPD said the gun was not pointed at the victims, but it discharged after a struggle where they tried to take the gun away from McDougald.
Cavendar said the argument started because the child had fallen and injured their face.
The child was flown to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta for treatment, and McDougald was flown to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.
Cavendar said the incident remains under investigation and more charges are possible.
