The LaGrange and Troup volleyball teams are headed to state.
Needing wins in the Area 1-AAAA tournament to secure a spot at state, LaGrange and Troup both made that happen on Tuesday at Fayette County.
LaGrange, the number four seed, beat fifth-seeded Spalding County in its opening match before falling to top-seeded Fayette County.
Troup, the number three seed, fell to second-seeded Central-Carroll before beating Spalding County to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament.
The tournament continues on Thursday at Fayette County, and LaGrange and Troup will play at 5 p.m. in an elimination match.
The winner will finish no lower than third and will still have a chance to finish first or second and earn a home match in the state tournament.
The loser of the LaGrange and Troup match will be seeded fourth and will be on the road at state.
SOFTBALL
CALLAWAY: In the semifinals of the Region 5-AA tournament, Callaway fell to Heard County 12-0 on Tuesday in a game that ended after four innings because of the run rule.
Callaway will play Haralson County at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the third-place game, and Heard County and Bremen will play for the region championship.
LAGRANGE: Whitewater pushed a run across in the seventh and final inning to beat LaGrange 1-0.
Camden Smith was the tough-luck loser for LaGrange.
The senior pitcher threw a seven-inning complete game, and she held Whitewater to five hits, and the only run she allowed was unearned.
Malone Alridge had a double for LaGrange, and Jacee Marable and Abby Vanhoose also had hits.
It was the final game of the regular season for LaGrange, which will host a first-round state-playoff series next week.
