A man said he was approached by three people, one armed with a gun, who attempted to rob him at Lee’s Crossing Apartments, 119 Old Airport Road, Sunday evening, but they fled when he began yelling for someone to call police.

The victim said the three males, who appeared to be juveniles, approached him from a darkened area after he parked in front of his apartment. One of the males asked to use the victim’s phone, but he told the juvenile the battery was dead.

As he walked up the steps to his apartment, the victim heard the juveniles following him and when he turned around, saw one holding a gun. The robber told the man several times to give him his wallet, but the victim said he attempted to push the gun away, then yelled at his family in the apartment to call police.

The robbers then ran without taking anything. They were described as African-American males, all between 16 and 18 years old, 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall, thin builds between 145 to 160 pounds.

The gunman was described as wearing a khaki jacket with close-cropped hair around the sides, with a medium-length afro style on the top, with a medium complexion.

Police were investigating.

Teen charged after short chase

A 19-year-old man faces misdemeanor charges after police said he fled an officer in his vehicle, before the vehicle ended up in a residential front yard Friday night.

A LaGrange officer said he saw the vehicle southbound on North Greenwood Street approaching the light at Hunicutt Place at a fast speed, and it looked like it was about to hit a vehicle that had the right of way traveling through the intersection. The officer flashed his lights and sirens, which prompted the vehicle with the right of way to stop, avoiding a collision with the speeding vehicle, which turned down Hunicutt Place.

The officer chased the speeding vehicle, going past 70 mph in an attempt to catch up. The vehicle then ran the stop sign at Granger and Azalea drives, the officer said, then may have lost control, stopping in the front yard of a nearby residence. One of the occupants fled.

The officer stayed with the remaining three occupants and identified the suspected driver, the 19 year old, who said he fled in the vehicle because someone in the car told him to “go go go.” A small amount of marijuana was inside the vehicle.

The teen was charged with fleeing an officer, reckless driving, traffic control device violation, stop sign violation and obstruction of an investigation for allegedly lying about being the driver.
