Artistic opportunities are abounding at the LaGrange Art Museum this winter and early spring.  

A new session of children’s art classes is set to begin in the new year on Jan. 5. Participants will enhance their critical thinking, communication and visual literacy skills. Studio activities include painting, collage, sculpting, printmaking and drawing.

 Classes are for ages six through high school. 

Small homeschool co-op groups or individual families will want to sign up for “Creative Crew Tours and Activities.”

According to Laura Jennings, LaGrange Art Museum Executive Director, the lessons are interactive and will encourage students to examine objects and ideas through a variety of activities, including discussion, drawing, writing, role playing and games. 

There are multi-children discounts available. Classes are set for Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and reservations a week in advance are requested.

Anyone who received a camera for Christmas or even want to learn more about the art and science of taking great photos, enroll in Shannon Belletti’s four-week class “Fundamentals of Photography.” 

“This class will help you figure out what all of the buttons, settings and options are on your camera,” Belletti said. “This way you can get your camera to take the pictures the way that you visualize them in your mind. You’ll learn how to use your camera and figure out what it’s capable of.” 

Belletti has been teaching for many years and runs the Georgia School of Photography. 

““My goal is that every student feels confident taking beautiful photos in even the most challenging situations,” Belletti said. “They’ll learn about all of their DSLR camera functions in a fun, hands-on workshop setting.”

Classes are Tuesdays on Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. 

The cost is $125 for members and $130 for non-members.

A one-day “Off-Camera Flash Workshop” is set for Saturday, March 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. and is $75 per person. 

In this hands-on class, participants will learn how to move external flash units off-camera. 

Adult Drawing and Painting are continuing through the new year with instructor Steve Close.

Jennings said the class is very popular and has been a hit since they introduced it. 

The classes are ongoing every Wednesday with a morning and afternoon session offered. 

Four classes cost $100 or $95 for members.  

“Thanks to funding from the Junior Service League, the ever-popular Super Saturdays will be offered but with the new twist to meet COVID safety protocols,” Jennings said. “Families are invited to come to the museum the third Saturday of every month from 1 to 4 pm. 

Free, self-contained art kits with all the supplies and a printed lesson will be available. The next pick up dates are Jan. 16, Feb. 20, and March 20.”
