For three days, teams from across area made the LaGrange High gym their home.

By the time the LaGrange Toyota Classic wrapped up on Wednesday night, a total of 17 games had been played over the course of three days.

The Toyota Classic began with five games on Monday, and there were six games on Tuesday, and six more games on Wednesday.

Among the participants was Dutchtown, which won the Class AAAAA state championship in March.

Another competing team was Trinity Christian, which made the Class A state semifinals last season, and other participating teams were Newnan, Russell County, Auburn, Starr’s Mill, Central-Carroll, East Paulding, Washington, Marietta, Harris County, and Camp Jewell House.

“The Toyota Classic was a great event,” said LaGrange head coach Mark Veal, whose team went 1-2. “A lot of basketball people around were impressed with the teams, and some of the individual players. There were some Division I kids here. There are guys with Division I offers, and commitments.”

MARIETTA 50, HARRIS COUNTY 44

Marietta outscored Harris County 14-6 in the fourth quarter to earn the come-from-behind win.

Eric Howard, who had six points in the fourth quarter, scored 11 points for Marietta, and Isaac Jones made three 3-pointers and had 11 points as well.

Marcus Dumas, who had 10 points in the second quarter, led Harris County with 16 points.

NEWNAN 70, RUSSELL COUNTY 59

Mekhi Mawdesley made four 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead Newnan past Russell County.

Newnan outscored Russell County 19-10 in the fourth quarter to turn a close game into a blowout.

Wesley Drake made three 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Newnan, and DJ Epps led Russell County with 17 points.

AUBURN 69, STARR’S MILL 38

Eleven different players scored for Auburn, overwhelmed Starr’s Mill to improve to 9-2.

Eli Elston and Jayden Buckley each scored 11 points to lead Auburn’s balanced scoring attack, and Michael Townsend led Starr’s Mill with eight points.

EAST PAULDING 52, CENTRAL-CARROLL 42

East Paulding outscored Central-Carroll 19-3 in the first quarter, and it led comfortably the rest of the way.

Central-Carroll outscored East Paulding 19-7 in the fourth quarter to make the final score more respectable.

Sebastian Tidor, who had nine points during the decisive opening quarter, led East Paulding with 19 points, and Kristian Ford added 11 points.

For Central-Carroll, Joseph Bell scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 14 points.

TRINITY 65, WASHINGTON 58

Sami Pissis was unstoppable for Trinity Christian.

The senior guard scored 31 points while making seven 3-pointers, and he helped his team finish with a 3-0 record in the event.

Pissis made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the first quarter as Trinity built a 15-7 lead.

Washington was trailing 48-30 when it exploded for 28 points in the fourth quarter, but Trinity held on for the win.

Leonard Rapley led the late charge for Washington with 11 points in the fourth quarter, and he finished with 19 points.
