A woman who rescinded her offer to let a friend and her boyfriend stay at her home in the 200 block of Thomas Street ended up in the hospital after they allegedly beat her up.

LaGrange police met the victim at West Georgia Medical Center about 2 a.m. Monday, where she told officers she allowed the acquaintance to stay at her home, and the woman invited her boyfriend to move in against her wishes.

An argument broke out after she ordered her friend and the boyfriend to move out of her house because they were smoking crack cocaine and had damaged part of the residence, according to the victim.

The woman allegedly punched her, and struck her in the head with a picture frame and a glass candle holder. The man kicked her in the head and she passed out, the victim told police.

The homeowner said when she woke up, the friend and her boyfriend ran out of the house and jumped into a van.

The victim sustained bruises and swelling on her face, several scratches and cuts on her legs and contusions on her knuckles, according to the police report.

Police were investigating.

DUI

Valentine’s Day ended on a sour note for one woman who capped off the night behind bars.

LaGrange police stopped a black Honda Accord on Union Street just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday after seeing it weaving on Lafayette Parkway. Officers said when they stopped the car, they could smell alcohol from inside the vehicle, the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and her speech was slurred.

Police said the driver failed a field sobriety test and a breath test recorded her blood alcohol content at 0.18. Officers also allegedly found an open beer in the car.

Police charged the woman with failure to maintain lane, DUI, reckless driving and open container.

She was booked into the Troup County Jail.

Counterfeit money

A clerk at Pal Express, 415 S. Greenwood St., called police after a man who used a fake $20 bill in his business returned to the store late Monday night.

The clerk told LaGrange officers the man bought a pack of Newport cigarettes and a drink with the counterfeit money Saturday.

When the man came into the store Monday, the clerk said he confronted him about the fake bill and the man became defensive and told the clerk to call the police. The employee called 911 and the man left the store.

Police were investigating.
