The Troup County School System hired a new director of public relations at Thursday night’s school board meeting.
Irisha Goodman was hired to replace Yolanda Stephen, who resigned earlier this month to take another position.
Goodman has 12 years of communications and public relations experience, serving as a news reporter, editor and production specialist in Columbus, Georgia and Albany, Georgia before moving to her current role in Roanoke, Virginia.
She is currently serving as the public relations, marketing and social media manager for the city of Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and broadcast journalism from the University of South Alabama and a master’s degree in strategic communication from Regent University.
“Mrs. Goodman is experienced and highly qualified for this position, and she will be a valuable member of our team,” said Superintendent Brian Shumate.
Goodman was on video call at Thursday’s meeting. She said she will be moving to Troup County very soon.
“I’m very excited to be coming back to Georgia after four years.” Goodman said.
“I used to live in Columbus, Georgia and Albany, Georgia where I worked at the local TV stations in those cities. I can’t wait to meet everyone and start working with Troup County Schools in this position.”
