The Troup County School System reported lower COVID-19 cases among students and staff on Friday.
“Our numbers of COVID positive student and staff cases has declined over the last week,” said TCSS Superintendant Brian Shumate. “That is positive news and we are hopefully optimistic that this trend continues. However, we will continue to exercise all precautions for the time being.”
The school system reported that a total of 133 students had a positive case of COVID-19, which is nearly half of the reported cases of 220 in last Friday’s report.
There are 413 students who are in quarantine due to close contact. Last Friday, there 823 students in quarantine.
Nineteen employees had a positive case of COVID-19 and seven were in quarantine due to close contact. There are 14 employees with extended quarantine time.
“Again, I’d like to thank the community, our students and parents and our staff again for their support in keeping our schools open and keeping our staff and students safe,” Shumate said.
