HOGANSVILLE — Highway 29 in Hogansville is keeping it going with its wave of new businesses.
Two businesses, Stephens Repairs and Hogansville Exclusive Details both were welcomed to the community Saturday following their openings several weeks earlier.
Stephens Repairs, located on 213 US 29 Highway, was the first to hold a ribbon-cutting that day, subsequently celebrating its one-month anniversary in the Hogansville community.
Stephens Repairs is a small engine repair shop that strives to fix every kind of engine from scooters and dirt bikes to lawnmowers, said owner Jessy Stephens.
Stephens has been a resident of Hogansville for just over 10 years and has previously performed small business repairs from the comfort of his own home for a select few customers, he notes, making Stephens Repairs his first official business.
“I’ve been a diesel mechanic in Atlanta for 10 years, but I’ve been working on small engines my whole life. My dad taught me [how],” he said. “I’ve been toying with the idea to open my own shop for maybe two years.”
Stephens runs the business with his wife, who handles the bookkeeping side of things, and his two children, who help with the upkeep.
“I have a ten-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter,” he said.
“I shut the shop down every day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and pick them up from school, and they do their homework in my office, then they sweep the floors and help fix little things.”
Prices for his services will vary based on the labor and amount of work put into the repairs, but Stephens said he will strive to give all his customers the fairest prices.
Meanwhile, Hogansville Exclusive Details celebrated three weeks of being opened during its ribbon cutting. Details’ owner, TaCarious Tigner, previously ran the car detailing business in a different location in town before packing up and moving to the new location at 220 North Highway 29. Tigner is a Hogansville native and has spent the majority of his life detailing cars in some capacity, he said.
“I first started at my grandfather’s house [washing cars] with a hosepipe in my hand,” he said.
“I always wanted my own little business, and I just kept working at it.”
Now that he’s ventured out on his own, Tigner offers interior and exterior cleaning on cars, including vacuuming and shampooing services.
“We do just about everything you can do to a car,” he said. “I have set prices, but it really just depends on how bad the car is.”
Tigner has two children. On occasion, his youngest son likes to help out and learn the business on a professional level. Tigner said he hopes that all children including his own can obtain an entrepreneurial spirit and follow their own ambitions.
“I want every child to see…you don’t have to do things on that level,” he said. “You can get yourself into something better.”
