Bark at the Park returns for its sixth annual 5k through downtown LaGrange on Oct. 30. The event will be held at Southbend Park and features a “best dressed” and “looks most like your dog” contest for owners to compete in.
The registration fee is $25 and includes a t-shirt for the event. Tickets can be found online and will be sold the day of the event. Registration for the 5k will begin at 7 a.m. with the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. The dog-friendly walk registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and begins at 9 a.m.
Last year the event raised $500 for the LaGrange – Troup County Humane Society.
All money raised will go toward the medical cost of the animals, according Mandi Bono, director of the humane society.
This can include a wide array of procedures including vaccinations. The humane society plans to bring dogs to the walk for those who may want a canine companion to join them during the event.
Bono said it was a big hit last year.
“We leashed all of our dogs up and sent them on a walk too,” she said.
“It is great exercise and enrichment for the dogs, (it) got them out, a little excitement for the day … And it gave the people in the community a chance to interact with those dogs to see if they might be a good fit for them as well.”
