A 31-year-old man was killed Friday night following a head-on collision on Highway 18.
The victim, Christopher Barefoot, of Phenix City, Alabama, died on scene after being entrapped in his vehicle for over 45 minutes.
The incident happened near the 3300 block near Shoemaker Road.
“It looks like he crossed the center line and hit the other vehicle head-on,” said Amy Sheppard, the chief deputy Troup County corner.
The other vehicle contained two other drivers, Sheppard said. One was airlifted to the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital while the other was taken by ambulance. Sheppard said, to her knowledge, neither had life-sustaining injuries.
Barefoot’s next of kin has since been identified, Sheppard said.
It is currently unknown if Barefoot was under the influence at the time of the accident, Sheppard said.
“We drew blood and it will take eight to 12 weeks to get the results back,” she explained.
