The citizens of Hogansville voted for two new council members Tuesday with Michael Taylor winning post one and Matthew Morgan winning post two.

Taylor defeated incumbent Robert Conway with 298 votes, or 54.98% of the total votes. Conway had 244 votes.

At 25 years old, Taylor could be the youngest city council member in Hogansville history, which is partly what inspired him to run.
“I wanted to run because I saw no younger people. I wanted to see some fresh new ideas,” Taylor said. “Also the kids, I want something for the kids to do — youth interaction. And the infrastructure problems … I also noticed that is a very big problem.”

Conway said he supports Taylor and will continue to be an active member of the Hogansville community.

“Michael Taylor Jr. is a great young man, a smart young man. I think he’ll do a great job. I enjoyed the race. He ran a great race,” Conway said. “I live here I’m going to be a citizen and support the city council and support the city in a way I can … I think all these guys are going to do a great job, so I might just sit back and enjoy it.”

Morgan won his race against incumbent Marichal Price with 305 total votes or 55.56% of the total votes. Price finished with 244 votes. Matthew said that he is excited to take on his new role as councilman and shared Taylor’s focus on providing for the youth of Hogansville.

“It’s exciting. Clearly Hogansville wants change. That’s really exciting to see the people, the people back it up,” Morgan said. “One really important (issue) to me is youth, making sure we’re taking care of them, giving them something to do, get them off the streets.”

Price said that he believes Morgan and new members will be good for the Hogansville community.

“I think Matthew, he’s going to do a good job … and they’ll be a good fit for the city too.” Price said.
