West Point gives out meals on Thanksgiving

Tramell said the giveaway wouldn’t be possible without the support of local restaurants in West Point.
“A number of businesses have donated to support this, and we do it every year, and it’s just a great thing for people that don’t have a way to get a hot meal on Thanksgiving Day,” he said. Three senior centers in Lanett, Valley, and West Point are all getting food to take out to some of their [seniors].”
Tramell said he and other volunteers planned to hand out 200 meals this year.
“When we first started out, we were doing 400 or 500 meals,” he said. “We’d have 100 or 150 left over, and were scrambling to get rid of them. I hate wasting food, so we’ve cut it back.”
Tramell said last year, demand for the meals was low, perhaps due to the pandemic.
“My family and I volunteer every year for this,” volunteer Kesha Coniglio said. “It’s just a good time to come together and be thankful [for] the blessings that we all have in our lives and to bless others and make sure that nobody in our community goes without Thanksgiving dinner.”
