Members of the Get Troup Reading program received a donation Wednesday from Troup County Communities in Schools in the form of over 150 books.

The books range from elementary-level to upper grade titles and were donated in gentle used or brand new condition to CIS from Barnes and Noble. The books will be divided between CIS’ and the United Way of West Georgia’s Success by Six program, operations.

Some titles might soon be seen in one of the nearly dozen little free libraries around the county while others will be on the shelves of the Jungle Bus, operated by Nicole Kennedy and Gail Gordon.

Many will stay in Success by Six’s office that has been transitioned into a sort of library for its operations. The library, built from refurbished bookshelves that once belonged at the Mountville Elementary School, is currently filled with hundreds of books that are donated from the community.

“All the books that are donated in our community are in this central location, and they are available for anybody that needs books,” said Kim Myers, executive director of Get Troup Reading.

Gordon, who poses as “Reading Ranger” when she helps operated the Jungle Bus, said Get Troup Reading looks for opportunities to get books out to as many families as possible in the county. Gordon recently began a new partnership with Warren Temple United Methodist Church where she gave away books with in food boxes the church was passing out.

CIS Georgia received over 1,000 books through a partnership with Barnes and Noble and Get Troup Reading received over 400 books from the donation and decided to share with local reading programs. Anyone who wants to donate books can bring them to the Success by Six office in downtown LaGrange.
