If residents of LaGrange and Troup County are looking for things to do, there is plenty for everyone this weekend. From cookies to skating to shopping, the weekend is sure to have something for the whole family.
Columbus State Alumni and Friends will have a networking mixer this Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m. at Wild Leap Brewing Company. The goal is to help connect alumni and have a drink with friends, per their college website.
Sweetland on Ice will be open to the public from Thursday until Sunday. The rink will be open to the public Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Feb. 14. The hours are 5 to 9 p.m. and
Sweetland Amphitheatre General Manager Katie McGinty said she hopes the public will enjoy date nights at the amphitheater before it closes. The rink is still open for private events on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We extended our season by one day to celebrate Valentine’s Day with our wonderful community. On Feb. 14, we will offer a ‘buy one, get one’ free special. We’ve planned the perfect date night – skating at beautiful Sweetland Amphitheatre and snuggling by one of our fire pits,” McGinty said.
“We offer full concessions including beer, wine, spirits and s’mores kits. We’d also like to say thank you to our wonderful community for supporting this Sweetland on Ice season. It was a big success.”
For those hoping to watch the action instead of participate, Troup High School will be hosting a wrestling event for boys and girls 4A section B and 5A section A. LaGrange and THS will be participating as approximately 650 students from 58 schools compete at THS. The school’s new indoor athletic facility holds over 2,000 and the event is open to the public.
Crave Cookie Company will be hosting a kid-friendly cookie designing class Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Owner Tammy Weissert said she hopes the children attending have fun even if it means getting messy. Space is limited so call Weissert at 706-668-3430 for availability and additional information.
“We have a number of families bringing kids. We’ll have heart shaped cookies for doing royal icing, so they get the grown-up icing. We’ll have a couple already decorated for them that they can come and put just the details on,” Weissert said. “We’re going to let them put the wet frosting on and kind of learn how to do all that and just have fun. It’ll probably be a little messy.”
If looking to shop, there will be a Valentine’s Day Pop Up Shop at 210 Daniel St. from noon to 5 p.m. It includes giveaways, games, fun, and is presented by Queen Rae Lash Collection.
CEO of Queen Rae’ Lash Collection Raven Gates said she hopes the community will join her and shop.
“Do you want great deals on Valentine’s Day gifts?” Gates said. “Well join this weekend where all the deals and awesome vendors will be.”
