The Troup County Tigers girls basketball team won their final regular season game Friday of the season over the Jordan Red Jackets 44-36.

It was a gritty low scoring victory for the Tigers who have now won six of their last seven games to gather some momentum heading into the region tournament.

The Tigers dominated the first quarter 14-4, but allowed the Red Jackets to crawl back into the game in the second. The Red Jackets cut the lead to four points at the break. The Tigers were able to keep the Red Jackets from gathering any momentum and outscored them in the third and fourth quarter. 

Troup County’s Alexcia Murphy had her way in the first half, scoring 16 of the team’s 23 first half points and finished with a game high 22. Murphy was the star for the Tigers all season long and showed up in pivotal moments against the Red Jackets to carry them to another region win.

Monyia Murphy chipped in with 11 points of her own, with no other Tiger having more than four points. Murphy picked up three fouls in the first quarter but was able to avoid fouling out of the game over the final three quarters.

Troup County ends the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-5 in the region. The Tigers head into the region playoffs as the number three seed. Troup County will host the winner of the Kendrick/Jordan game Wednesday Feb. 16. The Tigers swept both potential opponents in the regular season. If the Tigers can win their next game, they will be guaranteed a spot in the state tournament.
