A juvenile was airlifted after a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 85, according to Jay Thompson with Georgia State Patrol.
The accident occurred at mile marker 24, and there were seven total people involved in the accident. The juvenile, a female, was the only one seriously injured, according to Thompson. She was flown to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta.
Thompson said the accident occurred when a vehicle failed to slow down and rear ended the car in front of them.
“Vehicles were traveling north on I-85 in the left northbound lane. Two vehicles were coming to stop for traffic ahead. They were slowing down and coming to a stop. The third vehicle didn’t slow down,” Thompson said. “The third vehicle also traveling north bound in the left lane crashed into the rear end of one vehicle and caused it to crash into another vehicle.”
Thompson said the roads were blocked for a little over an hour around 10:30 a.m., but they are clear now. The Troup County Sheriff’s Office was first on the scene and helped manage traffic. Troup County Fire Department EMS was also on the scene, while GSP investigated the accident.
