Grangers trying to make up ground in region standings

LAGRANGE – The Columbus Blue Devils have one blemish on their record this season, and they can blame the LaGrange Grangers for that.
The Blue Devils came into their home game against the Grangers on March 11 with an unbeaten record, but they were handed a 6-5 loss that day.
Columbus hasn’t dropped a game since, and it continues to hold on to the top spot in Region 1-AAAAA, although it does have a couple of close pursuers.
Northside and Harris County both have two region losses, and LaGrange and Hardaway are within shouting distance with four losses apiece.
There is still a long way to go, since each of the teams will play a total of 18 region games.
LaGrange will reach the halfway point of its region schedule today when it hosts Harris County, and it will be the first of three games between those two teams this season.
LaGrange, which beat Hardaway once and Carver twice last week, brings a three-game winning streak into today’s game, while Harris County has been hot since dropping its first two region games to Northside and Columbus.
In LaGrange’s final 10 region games, it will play Harris County three times, Shaw and Hardaway two times, and Columbus, Northside and Carver once.
There are four state-playoff spots available, so three of the region’s seven teams will be sitting at home when the regular season ends.
Region 1-AAAAA standings:
Columbus – 6-1
Northside – 7-2
Harris County – 5-2
LaGrange – 4-4
Hardaway – 4-4
Shaw – 1-7
Carver – 0-7
