HOGANSVILLE — Elevation of 5 C’s, a non-profit after-school and summer program for grades K-5 held at the Hogansville Elementary School, is currently seeking sponsorships and donations for its upcoming summer program.
Elevation is seeking items like gently-used board games and other activity items and snack items for its participants. The program is additionally looking for sponsors to fund the costs for some of its participants.
“We have some kids who can’t afford the program or some families who have multiple kids who can’t pay for every child,” Prophet said.
This year, Elevations had to increase the attendance cost for its program from $35 a week for each participant to $70 a week, explained the program’s founder, Charon Prophet. The summer program spans seven weeks from June 6 to July 22 and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. The program typically serves as many as 100 children from Troup County and areas like Newnan during its duration, Prophet said.
Applications for the summer program will be available following spring break. Anyone interested in Elevation of 5 C’s after-school or summer programs, or becoming a Friend of Elevation member, can contact Prophet at charon@elevationof5cs.org
Elevation was initially launched in 2019 and partnered with other organizations. In the last year, Elevation formed a new community-based organization called Friends of Elevation. This organization was established to provide broad-based community outreach and support in regard to Elevation’s programs and services. In its summer and afterschool setting, Elevation offers a series of academic programs that help develop a student’s talents and academic prowess, including art, music and STEM-based activities. Physical fitness is also provided in tandem with general health and wellness awareness, Prophet said.
Future goals for Elevation include moving the program into a larger building to accommodate its growing number of participants. Elevation operates in the former Boys and Girls Club building in Hogansville.
Prophet additionally said he wanted to invest in transportation so that participants could go on field trips in and outside of the county. In the program’s initial start, participants were treated to field trips like an Atlanta Braves game and a trip to the Atlanta Aquarium. For many students, Prophet said the field trips were their first time leaving Hogansville.
Field trips were canceled during the last two years due to the pandemic. Even though many businesses have reopened completely, but Prophet said he wasn’t sure if Elevations would be able to take participants on field trips due to transportation issues.
“With gas prices, it’s too much to rent [transportation] like a charter bus,” Prophet explained. “But the program has been doing excellent. We’ve had people [in LaGrange] ask us if we’re planning to expand, so the interest is there.”
Donations can be dropped off at the old Boys and Girls Club building at the bottom by the playground, 611 E. Main St.
