We’re basically one month away from the upcoming primary elections, meaning that we’d guess that Troup County might become a popular place for candidate visits over the next few weeks.
Just in the last week or so, we’ve had Kandiss Taylor, a Republican candidate for governor, and Herschel Walker, also a Republican who is running for Senate, stop through LaGrange. To be honest, there wasn’t a lot of build-up by either campaign beforehand, which resulted in a small gathering for Taylor. Walker, the former Georgia Bulldog great, probably would’ve drawn a crowd even if he had no ambitions for political office, so it wasn’t surprising that quite a few people came out to see him.
Early voting starts May 2, so in just a few days, we’ll all be able to line up at the ballot and cast a vote in statewide and local races. That means the time to get to know local candidates and statewide candidates is now.
Don’t be an uninformed voter. Don’t get to the ballot box, knowing nothing about the candidate, and pick one based off of political party. While we understand why party affiliation can be important, it’s not everything. Know your candidates.
We plan to write previews for the local races, as well as covering any other candidates that make a stop in Troup County over the next few weeks. Look for those stories as election day draws nearer.
