The Salvation Army of LaGrange is partnering with Local Grounds on 407 N. Greenwood St. to raise needed funds for the Salvation Army’s LaGrange Lunchbox program, which helps feed the area’s homeless population.
There is not a specified monetary goal, said Karen Cardwell, a member of the Salvation Army’s board. However, all funds will be used to purchase supplies for the program.
“[It provides] napkins, the plastic cutlery and the containers we send the meal in,” Cardwell said. “Unfortunate circumstances can happen to any of us. [Homelessness] can happen to any of us at any time. It’s about looking out for your fellow man and letting them know someone cares [and] making sure they eat even if it’s just for that one day.”
LaGrange Lunchbox was spearheaded earlier this year through the Salvation Army after it partnered with Food Harvest, an Atlanta-based organization that partners non-profits with restaurants. Through his partnership, restaurants donate excess food to the organizations so they may turn it into meals. In the LaGrange Salvation Army’s case, it was partnered with Longhorn Steakhouse.
Every other Friday, Salvation Army receives donations to make as many as 45 meals to give out to the area’s homeless. Officers with the LaGrange Police Department hand out the meals on the organization’s behalf. To donate, visit Local Grounds or the Salvation Army on 202 Church St. from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
