The LaGrange Animal Shelter is continuing to offer half-price adoptions through June 30 as it deals with extreme overcrowding.

The shelter took in a total of 270 animals during the month of May, and while it was able to adopt out dozens of animals, it currently has 152 dogs and 72 cats still in need of adoption.

The shelter often receives relief from its partnership with the Puppy Pipeline system, which sends adoptable animals to less-populated shelters up north. However, these shelters are currently seeing issues of their own.

“We are noticing the northern states have had an influx of animals returned to their shelters due to people returning to work since COVID has begun to slow down,” said City of LaGrange Animal Services Supervisor Chris Bussey.

“We are also in the middle of puppy and kitten season. It seems like every day we are taking in litters of puppies kittens, or having a pregnant cat dropped off at the shelter.”

The adoption fee for a cat/kitten is $8-$25 and for a dog/puppy $9.25-$37.50.
