It was a week of adventure for over 25 campers during Camp Cowpie’s 51st year. By week’s end, campers went home with a touch of sunburn, several mosquito bites and well-deserved badges for accomplishments in activities such as archery and marksmanship.

Friday acted is the camp’s final day where campers had a final to interact with the camp’s activities and a special hot dog lunch and water day. Before the water day activities, campers from each designated den — Ocmulgee Mounds (yellow team), Cumberland Island (purple), Ft. Frederica (orange), Kennesaw Mt. (red team) and Andersonville (blue team)  — were given certificates and high marks for their accomplished skills and their official forest ranger badges. Campers will receive official Camp Cowpie Cub Scout patches later this summer.

Andersonville, consisting of campers Gabriel Mabry, Jacob Fincher, Tucker Westbrook, Heath Cunningham and Conner Cochran (den leader), was the topped-ranked den for its archery score, averaging 35.25 points average. Westbrook scored third overall in archery and third place in marksmanship. Andersonville additionally ranked first for perfect attendance. Fincher, Cochran and Westbrook ranked for “true” bullseye.

Ocmulgee Mounds consisted of campers Cooper Wynne, Patrick Wynne, Levi Stedman, Adrian Reyes and John Honnold (den leader.) The group ranked second in archery and third place in marksmanship. Cooper ranked first for the most arrows on a target in a single round in archery and first place in individual marksmanship. Honnold ranked third in BB gun marksmanship and ranked for “true” bullseye. Wynne and Stedman also ranked for “true” bullseye.

Cumberland Island, consisting of campers Alex Cain, Harold Hill, Braxton Shelnutt, Danial Binion and Nick Cain (den leader), The group ranked third in archery. Cain ranked second place in BB gun marksmanship. Binion first for best shot and ranked for “true” bullseye. Shelnutt and Alex and Nick ranked for “true” bullseye.

Ft. Frederica, consisted of campers Ian Bash, Cooper Close, Maddie Andrews, Hannah Worthy and Bently Hudson (den leader.) Close ranked second in individual marksmanship and second for best shot. Bash, Worthy and Close ranked for “true’” bullseye.

Kennesaw Mt. consisted of campers Cannon Bash, Henning Daniel, Luke Andrews, Eli York, Zach Tures, and Oliver Cain (den leader). York ranked second for most bullseye in archery and Andrews ranked first. Cain ranked first in BB gun marksmanship. Andrews ranked third for best shot. Andrews and York ranked for “true: bullseye.

Campers Worthy, Bash and Patrick Wynn also earned most improved in marksmanship after attending Camp Cowpie last year.
