HOGANSVILLE–The Hogansville Hummingbird Festival Committee is looking for potential volunteers to help plan for its annual festival typically held the third weekend in October.
The Hummingbird Festival is an outdoor family-friendly fundraising event set to return for its 25th year this October. According to the Hummingbird Festival website, the festival is the principal fund-raising vehicle for the Hogansville Charitable Trust, which is a Georgia non-profit corporation responsible for the renovation, preservation and improvement of historic and municipal properties in and around Hogansville.
According to the website, historically, the festival has raised approximately $325,000 dollars for the Hogansville Charitable Trust. The funds raised are matched by federal, state and other grants leading to more than $3 million dollars in improvements for the city. This year, the Hummingbird Festival will host approximately 200 vendors.
But this event won’t be possible without the coordination of several needed volunteers.
“To be a volunteer, you simply must be able to come out the weekend of the festival and just be willing and ready to help out,” said Festival Chair Jason Stewart.
Volunteer duties range from working at the information booth, answering questions about the festival and giving directions to specific vendors, helping out at the food court, working at the water station, etc. Children and teenagers also have the ability to be volunteers at the festival.
“A lot of times we approach the schools, especially if there are some service hours that they need to get for the different organizations that they’re part of,” said Stewart.
As of publication, where the money going raised from the fundraiser is unknown.
“Generally after the festival is over we get together and figure out where those funds are going to be allocated. It always will be a city project beautification project,” Stewart said.
According to Stewart, the festival has helped the Hogansville Charitable Trust put money towards a walking tower trail that extends from the elementary school down to Oak Street, purchase the former PNC Bank building that allowed City Hall to move in from the Royal Theater and bought land in the center of downtown Hogansville to create what is now Askew Park.
