Dr. J.P. Ballenger, of Owens Crossroads, passed away on July 11, 2022, at the age of 75.
J.P. was born in LaGrange, Georgia and graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s in industrial engineering. He then received a master’s in business from Georgia State and then his PhD in psychology. He was married to Pam Ballenger, and they celebrated their 54th anniversary in June.
J.P. was a Vietnam veteran who spent his later years working for Raytheon as a Project Manager and then as an Associate Research Professor and Principal Research Engineer for UAH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ballenger, and his son, Christopher. Survivors include his wife, Pam; son, Paul; daughter-in-law, Shannon; grandsons, Jackson Ballenger and John Paul Lahiere; and sister, Jenny Miller.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary.
The funeral will follow at the church with Travis Collins officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse.
