A warm, muggy weekend is expected in Troup County, but with the rain expected to let up, it will be a lovely one. And, from boat races for a good cause to school supplies gathering, there will be plenty to do. 

FRIDAY

• The Lafayette Society for Performing Arts [LSPA], along with Lafayette Theatre Academy, are bringing Christmas a little early to LaGrange through their production of Elf Jr. The performance will be held Friday and Saturday at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the LSPA Black Box Theatre at 214 Bull Street in downtown LaGrange. LSPA office hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be open an hour before each show starts as well.

SATURDAY

• Saturday marks the sixth annual West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race. The race, held at Pyne Road Park from 8 a.m. to noon, acts as the biggest fundraiser for LaGrange’s Harmony House, a domestic violence shelter. In addition to the actual races happening on the lake, there is a festival atmosphere happening on land. Each team has a tailgating area and friends to cheer them on. Music and announcements are being played from the main stage. This family fun event hosts food vendors and a picnic venue. Sign in for racing participants begins at 6:45 am. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:15 a.m. and races will begin at 8:30 a.m.

• Boats not really your thing? Visit the Legacy Museum On Main in downtown LaGrange from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to catch site of several historic and classic cars. The car show, sponsored partially trough Troup County Archives, acts as a visual prelude to the museum’s latest exhibit, “Hitting the Road: Shifting Through Local Automobile History.” This year-long exhibit will present a celebrated view of the automotive history of Troup County and will feature some of the oldest automobile establishments in our area. There is no fee to enter or attend the car show. The cars will be parked along Main Street near the Troup County Archives & Legacy Museum on Main building. 

• While your downtown, visit the summer Market on Main from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The market boasts the vendors of Troup County’s freshest fruits and vegetables, as well as jams, jellies, pastries, eggs and more. Vendor booths can be found at Flagpole Park and along the sidewalks in the 100 block of Main Street.
• Speaking of car shows, Cruisers for Christ Cruise In will return to Marco’s Pizza on Lafayette Parkway from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• The Hogansville Public Library will be hosting a teen and adult movie at its location at 3 p.m. Visit https://thrl.org/program/teen-adult-movie-day-2/ for the movie title. This event is free and no library card registration is required. 
• Visit downtown Hogansville for its third annual Alive After Five Jingle & Flamingle. This Christmas in July event will be loaded with fun for the entire family and many shops will be open late. The event will launch at 5 p.m.
• Settle down for the night with live music at Pure Life Studio. From 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., yu7hgalternative country artist Ray Scott will perform. Doors open at 7p.m. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.purelifelagrange.com/tickets-1
