There’s a movie — “In Time” — from 2011 that involves the main characters in the film dealing in actual minutes and second — not money. In the movie, people do anything for more time, and when they run completely out, they die.

So instead of chasing a few extra dollars, they do everything they can to get more time.

We’re not saying the movie was great, as it’s certainly not a classic one we’re still talking about over a decade later. We honestly don’t even remember the whole plot.    

But the thought that time, not money, is what’s important is something worth instilling in our brains, subpar movie or not. 

Don’t get us wrong. We all need money. Somehow we have to pay our bills, provide for our families and have dollars to spend in our free time. But sometimes we spend a lot of time making money — or at home looking at our phones — instead of paying attention to the people and places around us.

Summer is about to end. Those of us with kids are about to get a lot busier as school starts every morning and school athletics and extracurriculars continue into the evenings. Before we know it, it’ll be fall and the days will be short.

Christmas will be here in the blink of an eye, and then another year gone.

We’ve all experienced that before, right? Most of us do that every day.

There are plenty of times where we’ve heard someone say “it’s 3 p.m. already?” in our office.

Time flies. It’s the most important currency we have, and unlike the movie, we never know how much we have left.

As the summer dwindles, we encourage you to spend time with your families, put your phones down for a few minutes and enjoy some quality time together.

Work is important, and there are a lot of things that need to get done each day. But it’s not everything, even in the most important job.
