Mary Joy Moosman recently represented Troup County 4-H in Atlanta at 4-H State Congress. Moosman, a student at Troup County High School, was one of over 200 4-H’ers from across the state to compete in this annual competition.

After winning first place in her district this past spring, Mary Joy and five other high schoolers in her category advanced to state.

A longtime competitive cheerleader, Mary Joy presented her project, “The Elements and Kinesiology of Cheerleading” before a panel of judges. She delivered an 11-minute speech with accompanying visual aids and demonstrations. She was also judged on the contents of her portfolio, which consisted of cheerleading project work, leadership activities, and community service.

Since 1942, State Congress has been the premier public-speaking competition and recognition event for high school age Georgia 4-H’ers.

This four-day event hosts various contests, recognizes 4-H scholarship recipients, and honors state 4-H winners in a variety of projects and competitions.
